Chic And The City

Where you choose to live inevitably becomes a part of your style. Beyond the weather and climate, every city is its own sub-culture—a veritable microcosm of hot (or chill) spots that determine not only what you wear, but how you wear it. Your city moves you.

This sartorial point of view is the driving force behind the campaign #BRMovesYou, as well as Who What Wear’s Style By City series wherein three influencers from around the country showed us around their respective cities and hand-picked the Banana Republic essentials for dwelling it up in postcard-perfect style.

Behold a few of their favorite things:

LOS ANGELES

Sheryl Luke, blogger behind Walk in Wonderland, epitomizes laid-back California cool. What makes her LA style picks distinct is the way they transition from day to night, and through the weekend, with ease. “Jeans rule the day,” says Luke, noting that L.A. tends to lean more casual than cities like New York.

Her Must-Dos: Lunch by the beach in Santa Monica. Exploring the Arts District downtown.  Coffee in Silver Lake. Sunset dining at Nobu in Malibu.

Her Must-Haves: Distressed denim and block-heel sandals. Bold blouses and supersoft sweaters (especially with bell sleeves).  This suede moto jacket. Throw it on and combat L.A.’s evening chill while having dinner overlooking the ocean. Swoon.

BOSTON

It’s not Patriots jerseys and Red Sox caps all the time, proves Extra Petite blogger Jean Wang. Boston has only recently—and rather unofficially—been declared a style destination, but it’s definitely secured its place on the map (thank you Tom Brady). Wang insists you’ll need a great pair of flats to walk everywhere. Light, versatile layers are also key for temperamental temps.

Her Must-Dos: Style-watching on Newbury Street. Dining at Island Creek Oyster Bar. Shopping at South End and Beacon Hill.

Her Must-Haves: The tailored trench in soft blush. Mid-heel pumps. Scarves galore. “Scarves are one of my favorite accessories year-round,” Wang shares. “A silky one like this can serve either as a purse accent or a faux turtleneck to keep your neck warm.”

NASHVILLE

Mary Seng of Instagram sensation Happily Grey (pictured at top), admits Nashville’s southern roots have influenced her style to be more approachable and laid-back. She keeps things equal parts edgy, sophisticated and effortless by sticking to strong basics. “For a daytime run to the coffee shop, you’ll find me in high-top sneakers and skinny denim—almost always black or gray,” she says. The trick is not to lookoverdone, but intentionally unfinished.

Her Must-Dos: Hiking and watching the watercolor sunrise at Radnor State Park. Meandering the 12 South area. Coffee at Steadfast. Rooftop cocktails at The Thompson. Dinner at Rolf & Daughters.

Her Must-Haves: Light, sumptuous sweaters. Perfectly fitted denim. The city-slick trench and crossbody tote.
