Editor’s Letter:
The Denim Issue

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.” — Oscar Wilde

Stephanie Davila, Editorial Director

For August, we took to the streets to see how women would style Banana Republic denim with pieces already in their closets. Jen, our super-talented Senior Director, Global Photography & Social Creative, asked if I’d be up for being featured (evidence to the right). Truth be told, I wasn’t totally sure what I was getting myself into but loved the idea of showcasing my personal style. That’s what’s so inspiring about street style after all—you get to put your own stamp on things, and what’s more empowering than that?

Hosting an open casting call in San Francisco and Los Angeles, we got a great mix of women of all shapes and sizes to try our premium denim (which we source from some of the best mills in the world). It was exhilarating to be on set and watch how each woman lit up in front of the camera—feeling confident and comfortable #InTheJeans. Many of them had never worn our denim, so it was exciting to hear how much they loved them and couldn’t wait to mix them into their everyday wardrobe rotation (best compliment ever!). My favorite part was hearing their stories about what makes them feel strong and beautiful. After the shoot, the excitement continued as people around the office compared notes about their favorite BR jeans—which pair they bought, how they fit, and how they planned to style them. Heck, I’m even wearing mine as I write this!

Beauty is not defined by the size of your jeans.”— Liv Tyler

We couldn’t be more excited to share our August feature with you—because this one hits really close to home. Read their inspiring stories, find your denim style, then show us how you look #InTheJeans on Instagram.
