Editor’s Letter: The June Issue

As I write this editor’s letter, I’m en route to Japan. I’ve never been there but have always wanted to go. Each year, I try to visit a different country to learn about a new culture, get inspired and have a fresh perspective. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of going somewhere for the first time—the anticipation and excitement around the unknown.

Our June feature GO YOUR OWN WAY: THE SUMMER ROADMAP captures that spirit and instantly transports you to another place. Shot in Morocco, it sets the itinerary (and soundtrack) for the summer of long weekends. Inspired by Banana Republic’s explorer heritage, the story is dedicated to what you might do (and wear) during your adventures—whether it’s a staycation or a trip halfway around the world. From jumpsuits and shorts during day trips to dresses and suits for date nights and dinner, each look sets the tone for the journey ahead.

Speaking of globetrotting, this month we also caught up with Jessica Nabongo, a world traveler on a mission to be the first black woman to visit every country (hint: she’s only 28 countries shy). “My wanderlust is driven by my extreme curiosity for different countries, different people… It’s my fascination with collecting proof that we are more alike than we are different,” she told us. Read her inspirational interview about pushing boundaries, living life on her own terms and staying stylish on the fly.

If all this talk of travel doesn’t spark your wanderlust, maybe this will: You’ll have two opportunities to enter to win $2,500 to put toward your next adventure. Head to our Instagram account @bananarepublic to learn more.
