Celebrate National Poetry Month and find inspiration with a look into our archives. Our 33rd catalog - issued Fall 1987 and titled On the Road to Mandalay - featured the Poet’s Sweater, an essential piece “guaranteed to fire the imagination - and warm the physique.” Crafted with a soft wool and cotton-blend material, it was available in variety of colors: khaki brown, green, navy and a natural beige. Although it was featured in a fall collection, the product description alludes to the month of April which, coincidently, was instituted as National Poetry Month in 1996, nine years after the introduction of the poet’s sweater. Could it possibly be that Banana Republic had some influence into this occurrence? We like to think so.
