Celebrate Mother’s Day with Oldvine Florals
No one deserves flowers more than the mother figures in our lives. Celebrate them this Mother’s Day with only the best floral arrangements. Our dear friend Itika Grimble, founder and owner of Oldvine Florals (and a mother herself), crafts beautiful bouquets, harmonizing bright flowers and foliage into lush, luxurious arrangements. We sat down with Grimble and asked for some tips and techniques to creating breathtaking arrangements, including how to prolong and maintain the life of freshly cut flowers. Read on below.

Q: What’s the first thing to consider when picking out a floral arrangement?
A: When picking out a floral arrangement the first thing I consider is the recipient. I think about what I would like them to receive and how the arrangement we are designing will make them feel.
Q: What’s the best way to preserve the life of flowers?
A: The best way to preserve the life of flowers is by keeping the water in your vase fresh and periodically trimming the stems of your blooms to ensure they are drinking the maximum amount of water each day.
Q: In a few steps, what’s the best way to put together a floral arrangement?
A: When I design an arrangement my go to aesthetic is a tight and low circular shape that I call a pavé. This shape can be best accomplished by designing from the outermost area of the vase inward and by cutting your stems relatively short (about 3-4 inches taller than the vase). I also like to use chicken wire inside of the vase or a tic tac toe grid with tape on top of the vase to keep the stems in place.
Q: What made you get into the world of flowers?
A: I started my career in florals as a Marketing Manager for the resident florist at the Four Seasons, Beverly Hills. While working as the Marketing Manager I became fascinated by the flower business and all of its moving parts. After several years of observing and learning the business I noticed that there was a need for more Black owned floral companies. That's when I decided to branch out on my own and build my own floral design studio in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
Q: In a few words, describe your brand.
A: Oldvine Florals is a luxury floral studio. We cater to every type of clientele from our more sophisticated customers who appreciate the skill and artistry of our designs to a first-time floral buyer who wants to show a gesture of love or appreciation by sending flowers.
